Firefighters from Newark and Irvington are currently battling a fast-moving fire that has engulfed multiple homes in Irvington Township, authorities said.

According to preliminary information, the fire broke out around 6:00 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of 21st Street.

First responders arrived to find flames tearing through a row house, with the blaze rapidly spreading to neighboring residences.

Fire crews immediately stretched multiple hose lines after discovering the fire had originated in the rear of one of the buildings and had large embers ignite at least four additional structures.

By 6:47 p.m., the fire remained out of control as flames continued to shoot from the affected homes.

Mutual aid units from surrounding municipalities joined the response effort as conditions intensified.

At this time, there have been no reports of injuries.

Firefighters remain on the scene battling the stubborn blaze, and officials are working to prevent further spread.

Additional details will be provided as the situation develops.
