A mass shooting in Trenton early Sunday morning left multiple people wounded and triggered a large emergency response as police and EMS crews converged on the area.
The shooting was reported around 12:30 a.m. near Chambers and Locust streets, where preliminary informarion indicated several people had suffered gunshot wounds.
Initial reports from the scene indicated EMS crews located at least five people shot, including two victims reportedly suffering gunshot wounds to the head.
One victim with a gunshot wound to the chest was transported to the hospital under a trauma alert.
As the response intensified, dispatchers received preliminary information indicating there could be as many as 12 victims.
Additional EMS units from Lawrence and Ewing were requested to assist Trenton crews.
By approximately 1:40 a.m., emergency communications indicated heavy activity connected to the shooting was affecting the main entrance to Capital Health Regional Medical Center on Brunswick Avenue.
Authorities have not officially confirmed the total number of people shot or the severity of their injuries.
The circumstances surrounding the mass shooting remain under investigation.
