Police in Newark are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery that targeted a jewelry store in the city’s Ironbound section Wednesday afternoon.

According to Director Emanuel Miranda, officers responded at approximately 1:03 p.m. on May 6 to a jewelry store near Ferry Street and Van Buren Street after receiving reports of a robbery in progress.

Authorities said three masked suspects arrived in a stolen vehicle, exited the car, and used sledgehammers to smash the store’s front door and windows before entering the business.

The suspects allegedly grabbed an unknown amount of jewelry before fleeing the scene in the stolen vehicle.

No injuries to employees were reported during the incident.

The robbery remains under active investigation, and no additional information has been released.
