Authorities are investigating a tragic collision that claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman in Marlboro Township on Saturday morning, according to information released by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.

At approximately 7:33 a.m. on October 11, 2025, Marlboro Township police officers responded to the intersection of U.S. Route 9 and County Route 520 after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
Investigators said the pedestrian, identified as Sherril Sakas of Totowa, was attempting to cross from the southbound to the northbound side of traffic when she was hit by a Honda CR-V. Sakas was pronounced dead at the scene.
The male driver of the SUV remained at the location and is cooperating with law enforcement, officials said.
Members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Marlboro Township Police Department continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact MCPO Detective Brian Boryszewski at 800-533-7443.
