Authorities in Maplewood are investigating two separate incidents involving a residential burglary and a case of criminal trespassing that occurred earlier this week.

According to a statement released by the Maplewood Police Department, officers were first dispatched to a home on Oakland Road shortly after 5:30 a.m. on March 5 following a report of a burglary in progress.
Police said the resident contacted authorities after hearing loud banging noises coming from the first floor of the home, followed by the sound of what appeared to be glass breaking.
When the homeowner went to investigate, he reportedly discovered shattered glass from the rear kitchen door and encountered two unknown suspects inside the residence.
The suspects quickly fled the property and were seen leaving the area in a light-colored SUV.
No further description of the individuals was immediately released. The incident remains under active investigation by detectives.
In a separate case earlier in the week, Maplewood police responded to a residence on Baker Street on March 3 around 12:10 p.m. after receiving a report of criminal trespassing.
According to police, the property owner reported that surveillance footage captured several unidentified juveniles entering the property the previous afternoon, March 2, at approximately 4:55 p.m.
Authorities said the juveniles allegedly forced open a rear entrance door to gain access to the building before making their way to a fourth-floor common area.
Investigators are continuing to review evidence and work to identify those responsible in both incidents.
Police are reminding residents to remain vigilant and take steps to secure their homes and vehicles.
Officials emphasized that community cooperation is important in helping prevent crimes and protecting neighborhoods throughout the township.
