Maplewood Police Captures Suspect Wanted for Irvington Township Robberies

A rash of armed robberies at gunpoint that occurred in Irvington Township had officers in a foot pursuit that ended in Maplewood on Sunday afternoon.

Officials from Irvington Township did not respond to several requests for public information, but according to preliminary reports, the armed robberies occurred in the township's downtown that included an elderly woman and a business.

Police caught up with the suspect and began a pursuit that ended with Maplewood Police capturing the suspect and locating a firearm after the Springfield Avenue chase.

Maplewood Police Chief Jimmy Devaul confirmed that the incident did not occur in Maplewood and that his officers assisted in the apprehension of the suspect.

Police did not answer to questions to whether the arrested suspect is responsible for several gunpoint robberies that occurred during the weekend in Irvington.

The suspect's identity has not been released at this time, but an Open Public Records Act request has been sent for the public to know who the suspect is.

There were no physical injuries reported.
