Manahawkin Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility Evacuated Due to Threat of Carbon Monoxide

Police are investigating the cause of a carbon monoxide leak that lead to the evacuation of Manahawkin Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility Tuesday evening.

According to authorities, on Jan. 8th, at approximately 11 p.m., the Stafford Township Police Department and other agencies responded to the Manahawkin Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility located on Route 72 West in reference to a carbon monoxide alarm activation in the facility's basement.

Due to the high carbon monoxide readings in the basement and first floor, approximately 30 first floor patients were evacuated to the Southern Ocean Medical Center or the Shore Meadow Facility in Toms River.

Officials say there were no complaints or injuries reported.

The Stafford Township Bureau of Fire Prevention is handling the investigation along with the Ocean County Fire Marshal.
