Man, Woman Sought for Violent Newark Carjacking

Police in Newark request the public’s help in locating Mr. Darian Martinez, 21, and Ms. Sarah F. James, 21, both wanted in connection with an armed carjacking and robbery that occurred on Tuesday, August 17. 

According to police, at approximately 3 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Norman Road on a call of an armed carjacking.  

Police said a group of four males approached a female victim and demanded her car keys and cell phone at gunpoint.   

As the victim was handing over her belongings, a female appeared and struck her in the face causing her to fall to the ground.

According to police, the victim was on the ground, the four males and several females repeatedly struck the victim in the face and body.

EMS transported the victims to University Hospital for treatment. 

Detectives investigating this incident identified one of the male suspects as Darian Martinez and have obtained a warrant for his arrest.  

Police said Newark detectives also identified Sarah James as one of the female suspects and obtained a warrant for her arrest.  

Police seek the public’s help in quickly locating either of these suspects as part of this investigation. 

According to police, Martinez is described as 6-ft. tall and 220 lbs. with a dark complexion, brown hair and brown eyes.

Police say James is described as 5’7” tall and 160 lbs. She has a medium brown complexion, black hair and brown eyes.
