Man Who Drowned in Lake Hopatcong Identified

Police have released the identity of a 51-year-old Livingston man who drowned Saturday after he tried to retrieve his hat from the water while in an boat.

Police responded to the scene shortly after at 4 p.m. after receiving a 911 call.

According to initial reports, Bo Long, 51, of Livingston, was in a boat with up to 10 passengers - reportedly family members - when his hat blew off. Long shut the engine and jumped into the water without a life jacket.

After retrieving the hat, Long attempted to swim to the drifting boat.

After seeing Long struggle to get on the boat, two of the passengers jumped in but were unable to rescue him.

Long was pronounced dead after being brought to shore.

The incident is under investigation.
