Man Wanted for Newark Armed Robbery Arrested; Second Suspect Sought

Officials announced the arrest of Isaiah Banks, 21, of Newark, following an armed robbery that occurred last night.

According to authorities, at approximately 9 p.m., police responded to Avon and Hillside avenues for a report of armed robbery.

Upon arrival, officers met with two men who reported being robbed of cash and personal property by an armed black male.

A man fitting the description of the robbery suspect was apprehended by police about an hour later during a motor vehicle stop that involved a gray BMW that ultimately struck a police vehicle.

The driver exited the BMW and ran, evading apprehension. Police arrested the BMW’s passenger, Mr. Isaiah Banks, after being identified as a suspect in the robbery.

Police charged Banks with two counts of Robbery, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

This investigation is continuing.

Police continue to search suspect described as a dark complexion male, approximately 5’10” to 6’ tall, who was last seen wearing dark clothing.
