Man Wanted for Killing Irvington Woman Shoots Himself in North Carolina

A man who was wanted in connection with a murder in New Jersey, shot himself as police attempted to arrest him on Friday at an apartment complex near Whiteville, the North Carolina Department of Public Safety said.

According to authorities, 54-year-old Timothy McAllister of Newark, survived the shooting and was taken to Columbus Regional Healthcare System in an unknown condition as of 7 p.m. this evening.

The incident unfolded at around noon as local police with the help of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest McAllister authorities said.

"While attempting to have McAllister come out of a residence, police reportedly heard a gunshot forcing them to making entry into the apartment where they located McAllister with a self-inflicted gunshot wound" authorities said.

McAllister was wanted in connection with the alleged murder of 31-years-old Tajmiah 'Mia' Phillips who was killed in the early morning hours of February 25th

McAllister is also charged with weapons violations in New Jersey.
