Man Wanted for Jersey City Deadly Stabbing

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating the whereabouts of the suspect wanted in connection with the death of a 39-year-old Jersey City man who was fatally stabbed on New Year’s Day.

Police say Mr. Darius Evans, 45, of Jersey City, has been charged in relation to the death of Tyrone Haskins who was found with stab wounds to his torso on Ocean Avenue in Jersey City just before 3 a.m. on January 1, 2021.

According to police Evans is charged with Murder in violation N.J.S.A. 2C:11-3A(1), a crime of the first degree; Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39- 4D, a crime of the third degree; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5D, a crime of the fourth degree.

Police say on Friday, January 1, at approximately 2:45 a.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a possible stabbing victim found in the area of 333 Ocean Avenue in Jersey City.

Upon arrival, responding Police Officers found a male with an apparent stab wound to his torso.    The victim, later identified as Tyrone Haskins, 39, of Jersey City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at approximately 3:20 a.m.

Anyone who sees Evans should not approach him, but should immediately contact police.

All information will be kept confidential. The above charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
