Man Wanted for Fatal Newark Shooting of Rutgers Student Arrested in DR

A 26-year-old man wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a Rutgers-Newark student, was arrested in Dominican Republic, according to officials.

Essex County Prosecutor's Office said Fraynned Ramirez, who has been on the run since April 2016, was arrested in the Dominican Republic and faces felony murder, robbery, and weapons-related charges.

A second man, later identified as 25-year-old Marcus Feliz, of Newark, was taken into custody on April 12.

According to authorities, on April 10, 2016, 21-year-old Shani Patel, of Toms River, and his 23-year-old roommate were wounded during the off-campus apartment robbery on Central Avenue.

The roommate was taken to University Hospital for treatment, but Patel was pronounced dead at 10:14 p.m.
