Man Wanted for Breaking Into Several Schools, Public Building in Newark Arrested UPDATE: Captured

Newark law enforcement officials have announced the apprehension of Jmarkus A. Baker, 50, of Newark. He is being charged in connection with a burglary and theft that transpired last month.

According to Newark Public Safety officials, a burglary was reported on July 15, 2023, around 12:47 p.m. The Newark Division of Traffic and Signals was located in the 200 block of Central Avenue.

Police said various tools had gone missing from a work truck, prompting an investigation. Additionally, equipment, including two generators, a water pump, electrical tools, two blowers, and a vacuum, were taken from the premises.

Surveillance footage provided evidence of Baker's involvement in the theft, leading to his arrest on August 26, 2023.

In another incident on July 16, 2023, around 8:57 a.m., a theft was reported at the Marion P. Thomas Charter School, located in the 100 block of Sussex Avenue.

Surveillance footage from the scene depicted Baker leaving the premises with a box of items.

The charges against Baker include criminal trespass, conspiracy, theft, and criminal mischief. He is also under suspicion for other burglary cases at Newton Street School on July 10, 2023, July 20, 2023, and Newark Collegiate Academy on July 22, 2023.
