Man Struck by Light Rail Train in Jersey City

NJ Transit Police are investigating a train strike that injured a male near Newport Centre Mall on Wednesday morning.

According to a statement released by NJ Transit officials, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a man entered the Hudson–Bergen Light Rail tracks and was struck by a train in the vicinity of 40 Mall Drive.

The unidentified victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.

NJ Transit officials said the incident caused about a one hour delay in both directions, but no one on board the train suffered injured.

It is not clear why the victim was on the tracks at this time NJ Transit officials said.
