Man Shot Dead While Walking Down Newark South Ward Street with His Sister

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and his sister wounded in the city's South Ward on Monday.

According to acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose, at approximately 4:00 p.m., a 25-year-old male, and his 23-year-old sister were shot while they were walking in the 100 block of Seymour Avenue.

The male victim, who has been identified as **Tony Branch, of Newark,** was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.

The female victim was transported to an area hospital where she was admitted in stable condition.

This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.

The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
