Residents in the area of 3rd Street and Academy Street immediately dialed 911 when they came across a male victim walking in the area bleeding from the head earlier this evening.
The report prompted a police search of the area for a black male who was reportedly armed with a weapon that robbed the man then assaulted him with the weapon shortly before 6:30 p.m.
The suspect is believed to be around 5'8" tall and around the age of 18-years-old. The suspect was possibly occupying a red Ford Focus when he fled southbound on Academy Street.
"They're usually cops in the area and on 3rd Street because of the busy walking thoroughfare" and area resident told us a short time ago. "We really tried to chase after the vehicle to get a license plate number to help police" the resident continued.
The man was transported to the hospital suffering a non-life threatening injury.
