Man Punched, Robbed in Broad Daylight

A Booton man was punched in the face and robbed Sunday afternoon in Elizabeth.

The 24-year-old victim was going to drop-off his car to get serviced sometime after 3 p.m., when he was approached by a man at the intersection of Madison and Louisa Avenues, police said.

The man demanded money and belongings; the victim replied that he didn’t have any money while handing over his cellphone, Sgt. Smith said.

The robber then  punched the victim in the face, taking the victim’s cellphone police said. 

The victim told police that the robber fled in a vehicle but could not provide description. 

Police officer who responded to the robbery pulled up the "Find My iPhone" app and punched in the stolen phone's details, revealing that the phone was in a moving vehicle traveling on East Grand Avenue. 

Officers  located what they initially believed was the vehicle and attempted to make a stop when one of the occupants threw cellphone out of the vehicle Smith said.

Police arrested 22-year-old Shaquan Baker of New York, near Division Street after the victim identified him as the person that robbed and assaulted him. 

The victim suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment.
