Man Pleads Not Guilty to Fatal Shooting at Newark Restaurant

A 28-year-old Newark man accused of a fatal shooting at a city restaurant early this year pleads not guilty.

During arraignment before Superior Court Judge Ronald Wigler yesterday, Leon Trent, pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with the killing of Tylean Crenshaw on January 8.

On Aug. 28, Trent was indicted on felony murder and robbery charges.

Durrell Hearn, 24, co-defendant, is scheduled to be arraigned September 29 on murder, felony murder, robbery and weapon charges.

On the day of the incident, Tykwan Crenshaw was inside Royal Chicken on Springfield Avenue when shots rang out shortly before 5 p.m.

Crenshaw, suffering multiple gunshot wounds, was transported to University Hospital, where he died.
