Man Pleads Not Guilty to Fatal Shooting of Newark Man

Newark

A 32-year-old Newark man accused of fatally shooting a man during a robbery at an apartment building, pleaded not guilty today.

During his arraignment, Tusha Latham, 32, entered the not guilty plea after being indicted on murder, felony murder, robbery, resisting arrest and weapons offenses.

In July 3rd, Abdul-Ghafur and two other men were in a hallway of his apartment sometime 8:30 p.m. when Latham brandished a gun ordering the men to the ground and demanded they hand over their belongings. Two of the men complied, handing over $110 in cash and a cell phone. However, Abdul-Ghafur, who reportedly refused to turn over his belongings, was shot in the chest.

Abdul-Ghafur was pronounced dead at the scene.

Latham is correctly at the Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2 million bail. A status conference in the case has been scheduled for March 7.
