Man Killed by NJ Transit Train in Union County

NJ Transit officials say an adult male was struck and killed by a train Tuesday morning at Summit Station, prompting service suspensions on the Morris & Essex line.

 

According to NJ Transit, the incident occurred at approximately 8:13 a.m. when Morris & Essex Line train 6620 — which departed Dover at 7:33 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at New York Penn Station at 8:55 a.m. — fatally struck a trespasser on the tracks.

 

No injuries were reported among the approximately 500 passengers or the crew on board.

Service on the Morris & Essex line is currently suspended in both directions as police conduct their investigation. 

The Gladstone Branch experienced a brief suspension but has since resumed operations.

 

New Jersey Transit Police are leading the investigation into the fatal incident.
