The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a fatal crash in Newark’s East Ward that claimed the life of a man riding a scooter on Wednesday morning.
Officials said the incident occurred at approximately 7:33 a.m. on December 24, in the area of 16th Avenue and Avenue C, where a male on a scooter was struck by a commercial dump truck.
The victim has been identified as Mr. Dayano Marinho Da Silva, 33, of Newark. He was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:08 a.m.
Authorities said the truck operator remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The incident remains an active and ongoing investigation being handled by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
