A man suffered severe head injuries after a violent assault turned carjacking in a Newark North Ward neighborhood on Sunday.
Just before 7:30 a.m., the victim entered his black Ford Pickup truck when suspects ambushed him in the 300 block of Lake Street.
The victim was pistol-whipped and struck several times in his head by suspects, who then stole the vehicle.
EMS transported the man to the hospital, where he is expected to recover.
At approximately 8:25 a.m., police spotted the vehicle in the 20’s block of Sip Avenue in Jersey City and tried to get the driver to pull over when they bailed from the truck and led cops on a brief foot pursuit.
Both suspects were apprehended in the Jersey City community and two guns were confiscated without further incident.
Newark Police arrived at the scene and retrieved the assailants, then continued the investigation.
