A violent assault at a local business in Maplewood left one man seriously injured and another facing criminal charges, according to information released by the Maplewood Police Department.

The incident occurred on May 12, when officers were called to a business along Springfield Avenue after receiving reports of an attack.
Responding officers found that a 29-year-old man had been struck with a baseball bat during a confrontation with another individual.
Police said the injured man fled the scene, making his way into nearby Irvington.
He was later transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained during the assault.

Following an on-scene investigation by Maplewood detectives, authorities identified the alleged attacker as 46-year-old Mr. Ellis Earle of Union.
Earle was later taken into custody and charged with second-degree aggravated assault. He was booked at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark.
The motive behind the assault and the relationship between the two individuals have not yet been disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
