Detectives for The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating a stabbing that left a man dead near a church in Newark’s Central Ward this afternoon.
It happened right across the street from the Hopewell Baptist Church located in the 700 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard just before 4 p.m. where police found an unidentified male laying in a grassy portion of a vacant lot suffering multiple stab wounds.
EMS rushed the unidentified male to University Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead at around 6 p.m.
Police taped off the area around an apartment building where they conducted the investigation.
The motive for the stabbing remains under investigation.’
