Police took a man into custody and charged him with weapons possession and receiving stolen property in Newark's North Ward Saturday.
The early morning incident happened around 3:25 a.m. in the vicinity of Oraton Street and Chester Avenue.
According to a preliminary investigation, police responded to reports of an unconscious male inside a vehicle near the intersection.
When officers arrived, they found the vehicle and the sleeping male with a weapon in plain view at that location.
Police were able to take control of the situation then placed the suspect in custody without further incident.
The incident remains under investigation.
