Man Found Shot in His Neck Dies in Newark's South Ward

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into a shooting that tragically claimed the life of a man this afternoon in Newark's South Ward.

Around 3:53 p.m., the piercing sound of a ShotSpotter device activated, alerting law enforcement to a shooting incident occurring near the intersection of Clinton Place and Renner.

Swiftly, police responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man who had sustained a gunshot wound to his neck.

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed at this time, was in critical condition.

Tragically, despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead shortly after 4 p.m.

As the investigation unfolds, the suspect responsible for this senseless act of violence remains at large.

At present, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Law enforcement authorities are working to piece together the events leading up to the shooting and to determine the motive behind this tragic incident.
