Newark

The Essex County Prosector's Office has launched an investigation into a shooting that left a man dead in Newark's West Ward Friday morning.

In the second homicide that occurred, at the same location within hours apart, police responded to reports of shots fired at the intersection of North Munn and South Orange Avenue just before 6:30 a.m.

When units arrived at the scene, they found an unconscious and unresponsive male suffering a bullet wound in his head.

Authorities said the unidentified victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

Essex County Prosecutor's Office officials are trying to determine if the fatal shooting is connected to a violent stabbing that killed a man at that location just before 2 a.m.
