The Essex County Prosector’s Office and Irvington Police are investigating a shooting that killed a man in the Township this afternoon.
Just before 3:30 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of Madison and Myrtle Avenue.
Officers arrived and found a 31-year-old man suffering severe injuries after a male approached and fired shots at the victim.
Authorities said the victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
The prosecutor’s office will take the lead in the investigation.
No other injuries were reported and the suspect is at large.
