Man Dies Following Early Morning House Fire in South Plainfield

Authorities in South Plainfield are investigating a fatal house fire that claimed the life of one person early Tuesday morning.

 

According to officials, emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 4:54 a.m. to a residence on Cedarbrook Avenue after receiving reports of a structure fire. 

When first responders arrived, they located an unresponsive adult male on the upper level of the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Two other adult residents were able to escape the home and sustained minor injuries. 

In addition, three first responders suffered minor injuries while battling the fire and were treated and released, authorities said.

 

The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. 

The cause of death remains undetermined and will be determined following an autopsy conducted by the Middlesex County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

 

Officials said a joint investigation by the County and State Fire Marshal is ongoing. Preliminary findings indicate the fire does not appear suspicious in nature at this time.
 

The investigation remains active and continuing.
