Man Dies After Being Stabbed in Newark

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the fatal stabbing of Christopher Greene, 26, of Newark.

Early Sunday morning, May 31, Greene arrived at University Hospital suffering from an apparent knife wound. He was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m. An investigation conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office revealed there had been an altercation earlier between Greene and his girlfriend, Alisha Barr, 28, at their home in the 100 block of Stuyvesant Avenue in Newark.

Barr was subsequently charged with aggravated manslaughter. She is being held on $500,000 bail at the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark. 

These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
