Man Critically Injured in Newark Stabbing

A man is in critical condition following a stabbing that occurred Sunday evening in Newark’s South Ward, authorities said.

 

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, officers were dispatched around 6:47 p.m. on June 8 after receiving reports of a stabbing near the intersection of West Bigelow Avenue and Ridgewood Avenue.

When police arrived in the area, they found the wounded victim several blocks away at Avon Avenue and Badger Avenue.

Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the man, whose identity has not been released, to the hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

Following a brief search, police apprehended an adult male suspect in the 100 block of Ridgewood Avenue.

Police officials said he was taken into custody without incident.

The circumstances leading up to the stabbing remain under investigation by Newark authorities.
