Man Critical After Gunmen Exchange Gunfire from Vehicles on Elizabeth Highway

Authorities are seeking information from any eyewitnesses to a shooting that took place on a busy stretch of a major highway in Elizabeth early Saturday morning, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced Sunday.

According to a statement released by The Union County Prosecutor's Office, the victim of the shooting, a 28-year-old male Elizabeth resident, remains in critical condition at a local hospital

Authorities say, at around 5:15 and 5:45 a.m. on Saturday morning, gunfire erupted from a dark-colored SUV, or pickup truck struck an occupant of a white BMW SUV on U.S. Routes 1&9 near McClellan Street close to the Newark-Elizabeth border, according to the preliminary investigation.

EMS transported the driver of the vehicle struck by gunfire to the hospital for treatment.
