Man Charged with Sexual Assault in Arizona, Now Faces Sexual Assault Charges in NJ

A 72-year-old Byram man arrested last year on sexual assault charges out of Arizona is now facing charges in New Jersey.

According to authorities, on December 7th, 2018, Byram Police Department assisted the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office with apprehending Joseph P Sulpy 3rd, 72, of Byram, on a warrant for Sexual Assault out of Maricopa County, AZ.

Police arrested Sulpy at his home and charged him with being a Fugitive from Justice by the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office.

A joint investigation continued based on the initial charges filed by the Maricopa County, AZ Sheriff’s Office. During the investigation, it was determined that the victim had also been sexually assaulted in Byram Township during the same time period.

As a result, the Byram Police Department and the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office on March 7th placed Joseph Sulpy under arrest for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a victim less than 13 years old,

Sexual Assault of a victim less than 13 years old and Endangering the Welfare of a Minor.

Officials say Sulpy was lodged in the Sussex County jail without bail.
