Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez reported that on Thursday, authorities from the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit apprehended a 45-year-old man associated with a collision in Jersey City that resulted in significant injuries to another driver.
According to Prosecutor Suarez, the arrested individual, identified as Mr. Patrick Gapasin from Jersey City, is now facing charges of Aggravated Assault and Assault by Auto in relation to the incident.
The arrest occurred at Gapasin's residence and he was transferred to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he will remain until his initial court appearance.
Prosecutor Suarez said the crash occurred on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at approximately 7:55 a.m.
The Jersey City Police Department received a notification regarding the incident in the areas of Routes 1 and 9 and Sip Avenue. Upon arrival, responding officers discovered two vehicles – a Honda Accord operated by a 60-year-old Jersey City resident and an Infinity Q60 driven by Gapasin.
Prosecutor Suarez said both vehicles exhibited extensive damage.
Both drivers were then transported to Jersey City Medical Center for medical attention. It was determined that the 60-year-old driver had sustained multiple severe injuries.
The subsequent investigation concluded that Gapasin had been driving at a notably high speed while traveling north on Routes 1 and 9, resulting in the collision at the intersection of Sip Avenue with the Honda Accord.
