Man Charged in Fatal Jersey City Shooting

Authorities in Hudson County announced that the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit has arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Sunday, September 28.

Acting Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello stated that Shakeem Clarke, of Jersey City, is charged with Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Endangering an Injured Victim, and Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon.

He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus on Friday, October 3, and transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance, HCPO officials say. 

Shortly after 5 a.m., according to Hudson County officials, on Sunday, September 28, the Jersey City Police Department was notified of shots being fired in the area of Union Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Hudson County authorities said responding officers located a male – later identified as Jamaal George, 27, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.

He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 a.m., Hudson County officials said.

HCPO officials said the above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
