Man Arrested for Possessing Weapon at Newark Ironbound Housing Complex

Police officials in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Zain A. Herbert, 29, of Newark, for possession of a loaded weapon yesterday.

Just before 6:10 p.m., police patrolling the area of the Hyatt Court Housing Complex on Hawkins Street observed a man with a weapon.

Police say the man fled into a building upon becoming aware of police presence and was immediately arrested.

The weapon, containing a large capacity magazine and ball point rounds, was recovered.

According to police Herbert, was also found in possession of a zip lock baggie containing marijuana.

Herbert faces charges of unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of prohibited weapons (large capacity magazine), resisting arrest and marijuana possession.

These charges are merely accusations.

This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
