Man Arrested for Gun Possession in Newark

The Special Enforcement Bureau of the Newark Police Division arrested Rafee M. Jones, 26, of Newark, today for gun possession.

According to police, at approximately 12:40 a.m., officers patrolling the area of Avon and Jelliff avenues observed Jones adjusting what appeared to be a handgun in the pocket of his sweat pants.

Jones was arrested without incident at the location for being in possession of a loaded .40 caliber handgun police said.

He is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Certain Persons Prohibited from Possession of a Weapon and Contempt on an outstanding warrant.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
