Man Arrested After String of Burglaries in Downtown Newark

Newark

Newark Police arrested a 48-year-old man accused of breaking into a pizza shop today.

According to police officials, officers responded to Queen’s Pizza, located at 122 Halsey Street, on a call of a burglary early this morning.

Upon arrival, police found the glass entrance to the shop was broken and cash was taken from the cash registers. Surveillance cameras in the area captured a male suspect leaving the shop at approximately 4 a.m.

Detectives investigating this incident developed sufficient evidence to identify Scott Russo, 48, of Newark, as a suspect in this burglary.

Police arrested Russo shortly before 8:30 a.m. and charged him with burglary. In addition, Russo was charged with five other burglaries on Williams Street, Hill Street, Court Street, Clinton Street and at an additional Halsey Street address.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
