Man Arrested for 2019 Paterson Shooting

Passaic County authorities announced that based upon an investigation conducted by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Mr. Rashad A. McCaskill, 35, from Paterson, was arrested in relation to a shooting investigation that took place November 23, 2019 in the area of Marshall Street in.

Police said in a statement McCaskill is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree and Certain Persons not to Have Weapons, Second Degree.

According to police on November 23, 2019 at approximately 5:39 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Marshall Street on a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival the police located evidence of a crime scene, but no victim was located.

A short time later members of the Paterson Police Department were advised that a 21-year-old male Paterson resident arrived at Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson seeking treatment for non-fatal gunshot wounds.

Based on the investigation Rashad A. McCaskill was identified and a warrant for his arrest was issued on January 3, Mr. McCaskill was taken into custody on January 8, in the area of Pearl Street, New York, New York, by the United States Marshals Service on this matter and an unrelated Federal Government matter.

Mr. McCaskill was transferred to the custody of the Paterson Police Department on July 1, 2020.
