Man Apprehended for Possession of Gun in Newark

Police in Newark took a man in custody and charged him with possessing a gun in Newark's South Ward according to authorities.

Cops arrested **Javish X. Vega, 34, of Newark, on Saturday**, September for gun possession authorities said.

Police said, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers responded to Bloomfield and Clifton avenues on a call of a person with a gun.

Officers located the suspect and observed him drop a loaded .38 caliber handgun, which they recovered.

Following an investigation, detectives determined that the handgun was stolen police said.

Vega was apprehended and arrested. He is charged with Receiving Stolen Property, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Prohibited Weapons and Devices, Certain Persons Prohibited from Weapon Possession and Obstructing the Administration of the Law.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
