Newark

Authorities announced the arrest of Charles E. Cameron, 46, of Newark, for a theft incident that occurred yesterday (Tuesday).

According to police, at approximately 2:35 p.m., security staff at the Robert Treat Hotel alerted a Newark Special Police Officer that a man left the hotel after taking some hotel property.

The Special Police Officer observed the suspect near the train tracks between Route 21 and Mulberry Street where the suspect immediately pulled out a metal object that appeared to be a knife authorities said.

Authorities said, as the officer backed away from the suspect to create more space, he tripped on the tracks, injuring his knees and hand.

The suspect subsequently fled into the underground tunnel on Center Street.

The officer was transported to St. Michael’s Hospital for treatment but later released.

Police said Cameron was arrested this morning near Newark Pennsylvania Station.
