Man Accused of Breaking into A Staten Island Home, Raping 7-Year-Old Arrested in NJ

A 32-year-old man accused of breaking into a Port Richmond home and raping a 7-year-old girl was arrested in New Jersey yesterday.

According to police, on Aug. 6, Daniel Nieto entered the victim's home through an unlocked door and went into the girl's bedroom. 

The family immediately called police after they discovered Nieto inside their home. Despite his efforts to escape, police found him not far away from the home.

Nieto was charged with trespassing and released. 

However, detectives then learned that he allegedly raped the child initiating a search for Nieto.

Yesterday, police arrested Nieto in East Brunswick, N.J.

Charges and extradition to Staten Island are pending.

The investigation is ongoing but police have determined that the family and suspect have no connections or know each other. Anyone with information is asked to contact NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
