The Union County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation into a shooting that killed a male on a street in Elizabeth on Wednesday night.
According to authorities, police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 421 Jackson Street at approximately 6:50 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a male victim lying on the ground, suffering bullet wounds at that location.
The unidentified male was rushed to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead a short time later.
Police say the suspects fired several rounds in the direction of the victim before fleeing the scene.
There were no other injuries reported.
