Essex County authorities are looking into the motive for a shooting that left a male victim dead in Newark's Downtown on Tuesday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, University Hospital EMS found the victim suffering multiple gunshot wounds near 304 University Avenue around 12:20 a.m.
Medical personnel requested police to the scene while they rushed the unidentified victim to University Hospital for treatment.
The victim was pronounced dead at the medical center before 1 a.m.
Officials said the Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the fatal shooting and will lead the investigation.
There are no arrests reported at the time.
