Male Killed While Operating Motorized Scooter on I-495 in North Bergen

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the North Bergen Police Department are investigating a collision that fatally injured a motor-scooter operator on Saturday, April 8. 

According to Prosecutor Suarez, shortly before 3:45 p.m., the North Bergen Police Department was notified of a motor vehicle collision near the westbound ramp for Route 495 in North Bergen in the area of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and 32nd Street in Union City.

Responding Police Officers found an injured motor-scooter operator at that location.

Prosecutor Suarez said the male operator, who has not been identified at this time, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 3:50 p.m.

Lupus During the preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the deceased male was operating a Transpro motor-scooter near the ramp for Route 495 as it traveled from the intersection of John F. Kennedy Boulevard and 32nd Street.

According to Prosecutor Suarez, the motor-scooter collided with the rear passenger side tires of a Freightliner fuel truck as the motor-scooter attempted to merge onto the westbound ramp of Route 495.

The fuel truck did not remain at the scene but was located nearby, along with the operator, during the preliminary investigation.    The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the North Bergen Police Department are actively investigating this case.

No arrests have been made at this time.
