Lyft Driver Carjacked at Gunpoint in Newark's North Ward

Swift response by authorities in Newark had police recover a vehicle used for Lyft transportation after an armed man took the car from the victim in the city's North Ward overnight.

According to police officials, officers responded to the single digit block of Wakeman Avenue after receiving reports of an armed carjacking in progress.

Units arriving at the scene met with the owner of the vehicle who reported being carjacked at gunpoint by a black male who wore a partial ski-mask.

According to the victim, the suspect brandished the weapon and ordered him from the vehicle then sped away from the scene..

Police said the car, a Chevy Cruz, was located by officers shortly afterwards in the 200 block of Mt. Prospect Avenue unoccupied.

The driver did not suffer any physical injuries police said. The suspect remains at-large.
