Little Ferry Woman Accused of Stabbing her Baby to Death

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office is investgiating the motive behind a stabbing that had a woman allegedly killed her child early Thursday evening.

According to reports, police charged Ms. Hiralbahen Bhavsar, 29, with first-degree murder and weapons possession in connection with the slaying of the 5-day-old child at their Liberty Street garden apartment.

Officials say at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Bergen County Public Safety Operations Center (PSOC) received a 9-1-1 call from a female, later identified as Hiralbahen Bhavsar, who initially reported she was having a medical emergency at her apartment on Liberty Street.

Little Ferry Police Officers responded to the residence at 310 Liberty Street, Apartment # 35, and found multiple family members inside of the apartment.

While at the scene, Hiralbahen Bhavsar emerged from a locked bedroom and confronted the officers. Upon entering the bedroom, the officers discovered the lifeless body of an infant child who suffered apparent sharp force injuries.

Bhavsar was taken into custody at that time.

Officials say Bhavsar was transported to the Bergen New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus following the incident that reportedly occurred late Friday evening.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office is actively handling the investigation.
