Firefighters responded to a Middlesex County home Friday afternoon after a lightning strike reportedly sparked a fire and damaged the roof.
Crews were dispatched to a residence in the area of 12 Wilson Avenue in South River shortly before 4 p.m. following reports that the house had been struck by lightning.
Upon arrival, firefighters stretched a hose line and began operations at the home.
Crews inspecting the residence reported damage to the roof, including a hole leading toward the attic.
Smoke was detected, but firefighters reported no extension of the fire into the attic at that time.
The Middlesex County Fire Marshal was requested to respond to the scene.
Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, and by approximately 4:22 p.m., the fire had been extinguished and emergency apparatus began clearing the scene.
No injuries were immediately reported.
