UPDATE 10:04 a.m. This is a confirmed fatality of a motorcyclist. One other in stable condition.
A multi-vehicle crash on Route 1&9 in Newark sent several people to the hospital overnight.
The crash happened shortly before midnight in the southbound lanes of the highway near Raymond Boulevard sending dozens of emergency responders to the scene where upon their arrival crews found about a half dozen vehicles, including motorcycles, involved in a collision.
One of the motorcyclists suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash.
According to preliminary reports from authorities, EMS transported the second motorcyclist to University Hospital in Newark suffering serious injuries.
The crash shut down the highway in both direction for the accident investigation.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
